Inside Higher Ed:  “At Hinds Community College, swearing can get you in trouble. ‘Public profanity, cursing and vulgarity’ are all punishable with a $25 fine for a first offense, and a $50 fine for a second offense. Further, the offense of ‘flagrant disrespect’ (which may be demonstrated by swearing, as became clear Tuesday when a controversy over the code went public) can earn a student demerits that could lead to suspension.”

When Treating One Worker’s Allergy Sets Off Another’s

The New York Times has an interesting story (“It’s a case of King Solomon meets the Americans With Disabilities Act.”) about what happened when an employer hired a disabled woman whose disability (allegoric paprika) adversely affected the health of another employee.  The employer laid off the newly hired disabled person who has filed a complaint with the EEOC alleging that the employer violated the Americans with Disabilities Act.  The story also illustrates one of the unintended consequences of the ADA, i.e, many employers are reluctant to hire the disabled because of the fear of an ADA lawsuit.

If Your Bank Mistakenly Puts $230,000 in Your Account – Give it Back

Anchorage Daily News:  “When more than $230,000 was mistakenly deposited in an Anchorage fisherman’s bank account, he didn’t waste any time taking care of the error, according to Alaska State Troopers. . . . a brand new 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS . . . was on his way to Florida, troopers said.  But authorities instead took him to jail, where he was booked on a felony theft charge.  ‘If there’s a huge windfall of money that is put into your account and there’s no reason for it to be there, it’s just clearly not yours . . . .””
