The Income Tax Ranking Calculator – See Where Your Income Puts You in Relation to All Other U.S. Taxpayers
Kiplinger has a simple income tax calculator that will tell you where your annual income ranks among the annual income of all U.S. taxpayers. Just enter your taxable income and click. Kiplinger says: “Using data released by the IRS, Kiplinger has built a tool to show your income status compared to your fellow Americans. The income breakdowns are based on adjusted gross income (AGI) reported on 2007 tax returns — the latest statistics available.“
Here are some sample results:
- $32,000 income: lowest 50% of earners; lowest-earning 50% of taxpayers reported 12.3% of all AGI and paid 2.89% of total income taxes; 70.5 million taxpayers with incomes of $32,879 or less paid a total of $32.3 billion in federal income taxes. This includes millions of low-income workers who actually paid negative income taxes because their Earned Income Tax Credits wiped out their income-tax liability and refunded to them part of the Social Security taxes they paid.
- $50,000 income: top 50% of earners; top-earning 50% of taxpayers reported 87.7% of all AGI and paid 97.1% of total income; 70.5 million taxpayers with incomes of $32,880 or more paid a total of $1.1 trillion in federal income taxes.
- $75,000 income: top 25% of earners; top-earning 25% of taxpayers reported 68.7% of all AGI and paid 86.6% of total income taxes; 35.3 million taxpayers with incomes of $66,532 or more paid a total of $965.9 billion in federal income taxes.
- $100,000 income: top 25% of earners; top-earning 25% of taxpayers reported 68.7% of all AGI and paid 86.6% of total income taxes; 35.3 million taxpayers with incomes of $66,532 or more paid a total of $965.9 billion in federal income taxes.
- $150,000 income: top 10% of earners; top-earning 10% of taxpayers reported 48.0% of all AGI and paid 71.2% of total income taxes;14.1 million taxpayers with incomes of $113,018 or more paid a total of $794.4 billion in federal income taxes.
