Suing a School They Loved

New York Times reports on a lawsuit filed by parents of a student of the prestigious Horace Mann School in New York because the school suspended the student for three days when it learned that the boy had pictures on his laptop computer of two topless female students at the school.  The pictures of the topless Horace Mann girls were found by other students who searched the boy’s computer without his knowledge or consent.  Despite the girls giving their pictures to the suspended student voluntarily, the boy was punished and given a black mark on his school record that will affect his applications for colleges.

Elementary Schools Remove Swing Sets to Avoid Lawsuits & Liability

More evidence of the harm the U.S. litigation system does to our country and freedom.  Investors Business Daily:  “Fearing lawsuits over injuries, a West Virginia county is removing swing sets from elementary schools.  A minor, local issue?  No.  America’s litigious society has changed the way kids play.”

Wall St. Journal:  “They’re the everyday fixtures of the Internet experience: pop-up stock quotes on a website, suggestions for related reading near a news article, videos along the side of your screen.  Now, Microsoft Corp. co-founder Paul Allen says he owns the technology behind all these ideas, and he’s demanding that some of the world’s top Web companies pay up to use them.”
