Arizona Republic:  “The legal challenge to Arizona’s private-school tax-credit program went before the U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday, and justices confronted attorneys on both sides about whether it violates separation of church and state. In hourlong arguments in the nationally watched case, justices focused heavily on the structure of the tax-credit program, which allows taxpayers to donate up to $1,000 to non-profit organizations that distribute the money as private-school scholarships.”

Arizona Republic:  “A case to be argued Wednesday before the U.S. Supreme Court could settle once and for all the legal bounds of Arizona’s private-school tuition tax-credit program.  More than setting a school-choice precedent, however, the case could also shape the rights of taxpayers to sue the government over policies they dislike that involve separation of church and state.”

Arizona Republic:  “A federal appeals court on Tuesday struck down Arizona’s requirement that residents provide proof of citizenship when they register to vote.  The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit ruled that a federal voter-registration law supersedes Arizona’s requirement.”
