Arizona ACC’s Top 10 Investor Traps

The Arizona Corporation Commission issued a scam watch list called “Top 10 Investor Traps.

The Arizona Corporation Commission urges investors to take stock of their financial education and arm themselves with the know-how to recognize a fraudulent investment pitch that can snag their money.

Many of the investor traps pitch above-market returns with guarantees, but the catch is that investing is risky business with the possibility of financial loss. Promoters provide little, if any, disclosure of the risks or worse yet, are con artists with investments that don’t even exist.

Summary of 2009 Arizona Tax Legislation

State and local tax attorney James G. Busby, Jr., just published his summary of the changes the 2009 legislature made to Arizona’s tax laws.  He is a shareholder of Gallagher & Kennedy, one of Arizona’s largest law firms where I was a shareholder/partner before starting KEYTLaw in 2001.  Most of the new laws are effective September 30, 2009.

Arizona DPS Photo Enforcement Unit

The Arizona Department of Public Safety has a website where it has information about the DPS photo radar speed enforcement program.  The best part of the site is the page called “Photo Enforcement Camera Locations” where DPS has a Google map that shows the location of its photo radar units.  This page also says there are 42 mobile units, but it does not disclose location.

The Department of Public Safety has multiple criteria for placing photo enforcement cameras along the freeway, three of which are listed below:

  • Construction zones
  • Freeway transition areas where two or more freeways merge
  • Areas where a high number of injury/fatal collisions occur where the primary or secondary cause is related to speed
