San Francisco Chronicle: “Sell a guinea pig, go to jail. That’s the law under consideration by San Francisco’s Commission of Animal Control and Welfare. If the commission approves the ordinance at its meeting tonight, San Francisco could soon have what is believed to be the country’s first ban on the sale of all pets except fish.”

I am a staunch conservative libertarian who would go nuts living in San Francisco. However, there is a time and reason when government should intervene, and buying/selling “pets” should have been outlawed nationally decades ago. As an animal rescuer, I have found that 1/4 of all animals in shelters are “purebreds”. The puppy and kitty mills are horrible, animals being brought in from Mexico suffer in shipment. The “pet selling/purchasing” industry is mired in disgusting practices that emotionally and physically destroy innocent animals. And every animal that is bred on purpose is a death sentence for an animal in a kill shelter because it takes away a home they could have been placed in. Animals that are grown for food have better oversight over their care than animals “farmed” to produce off-spring. It is an evil, brutal industry–and surprisingly, even the Amish are involved in it!! They should be ashamed! I understand most of them take better care of the dogs and puppies than most mills, but the fact they are breeding and adding to the misery is deplorable and anti-Christian.
